Speak Out: Lights Out depicts the difficulty of speaking up when it’s most needed. When the voice finally emerges, it sings “Taps,” the military bugle call used to signal the end of day or to recognize a soldier’s sacrifice. The piece honors the fallen who have spoken up and fought for their rights.
